“Reduce and Pick up Plastics” Publicity Enters the Community during the 2024 Lantern Festival | CBCGDF "Peoples vs. Plastics" project | PP022
On February 24,2024, the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival, the volunteers of the "Peoples vs. Plastics" project of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) carried out a publicity campaign of "Reducing and Picking up Plastics" in Beishahe Community, Lishan District, Anshan city. The volunteers went into the community to carry out the promotion and cleaned up the graffitied advertisements in the corridors.
Volunteers posted over 200 "Peoples vs. Plastics" promotional flyers on publicity boards in the community, cleaned up cluttered and messy small advertisements in the corridors, and picked up 9.86 kilograms of plastic waste, all of which the volunteers sorted and treated.
Finally, volunteers provide the following suggestions to community residents to reduce the use of plastic products in daily life:
1. Reduce the use of plastic products and choose recyclable plastic products (such as PETE and HDPE) to reduce their impact on the environment.
2. Eat less takeout.
3. Avoid heating the plastic. Heating plastic products in a microwave, using them to hold hot food or washing them in a dishwasher, can increase the leaching of harmful chemicals from the plastic and ultimately into the food.
4.
Avoid using certain types of plastic containers. Bisphenol can be hidden in
plastics used for storing food and beverages, so it is advisable to use
bottles, straw cups, food storage container made of metal or glass as much as
possible.
