CBCGDF Expert James Crabbe: Linking Disciplines, Omics and AI to improve Human Health
Professor M. James C. Crabbe, an expert from China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), was invited to give a talk in the Leonard Wolfson Auditorium (LWA) at Wolfson College, Oxford on: “Linking Disciplines, Omics and AI to improve Human Health”, which is a part of the Cross Disciplinary Machine Learning (XML) Cluster.
OxfordXML brings together researchers across different disciplines to share and learn about the impact of machine learning in their respective fields, such as physics, finance, social sciences, engineering, healthcare, and psychology. It provides a cross-disciplinary platform for Machine Learning researchers, both within the University and around the world, to share, learn and connect with other researchers across different disciplines.
Professor M. James C. Crabbe is a Supernumerary Fellow and former Governing Body Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford University. He is also the President of the International Engineering and Technology Institute (IETI) and an expert of CBCGDF. He was formerly Professor of Protein Biochemistry and Head of School at the University of Reading, and Executive Dean of Creative Arts, Technologies & Science and Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Bedfordshire. In 2024 he was elected a Fellow of the Asia Pacific Technological Sciences Academy. His research has resulted in over 340 research publications in refereed journals and books, plus 14 items of commercial molecular modelling software produced by Oxford University Press, and numerous awards.
This talk will take a theme of how organisms adapt and evolve in extreme environments and show examples where natural language processing and relation extraction can help in gene ontology, drug development and re-purposing. A holistic approach to the inter-relationships between digital technologies and the physical environment will be discussed, in relation to seep sea mining and the importance of education.
