Lecture Content

It is of great significance for Japan to study the modern legal history of East Asia. First, you can provide your own country with reference materials for legislation or interpretation. From the Asuka period to the early Meiji period, Japan took Chinese law as the center of research and applied it in its legislation and interpretation. Second, the study of foreign law assists the needs of diplomacy, transactions, or the adjustment of family relationships. In addition, the legal system can provide an in-depth understanding of the social culture of a foreign country.

Speaker: Takamieawa Osamu

Doctor of Laws, Professor at the Institute of Oriental Culture, University of Tokyo, Japan. The main research direction is Chinese law, including legal history, modern legal history and modern Chinese law. He is the author of "Outline of Chinese Law", "Disputes and Law in Modern China", "Introduction to Modern Chinese Law", "What is Chinese Law?" From Governance Tools to Civil Rights" and several other books, and published more than 150 academic papers.
