Jointly Addressing the Triple Planetary Crisis | Zhou Jinfeng Accepts CCTV Interview | Nairobi, United Nations

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), led a delegation to participate in the 6th United Nations Environment Conference (UNEA-6), which officially opened on February 26 in Nairobi, Kenya. The theme of this environmental conference is "effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution".

On February 25th, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng was invited to attend the Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum (GMGSF) of UNEA-6 and was once again interviewed by CCTV. In the interview, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng introduced several controversial topics at the GMGSF meeting on the 25th, such as the discussion of toxic pollution and human rights, especially targeting indigenous peoples, as well as issues related to the right to environmental development and the necessity of environmental protection. The discussion was conducted from the perspectives of different stakeholders, including government, NGOs, civil society organizations, and so on.

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng stated that these discussions are very necessary. The triple crisis we are currently facing, namely climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution, cannot be addressed solely by the government. These issues require other parties to work together to solve them. Dr. Zhou Jinfeng gave an example that CBCGDF has established over 200 “CBCGDF Community Conservation Areas” (CCAfas) so far, and certain protections are provided for abitats and species in need of protection such as migratory species, supporting their reproduction, foraging, and residence, and better protecting them from the threat of human activities. This also indirectly reflects the importance of NGOs, civil society organizations, and various sectors of society in jointly responding to the triple crisis.
