A Healthy Lunar New Year Without Eating Wildlife! Advocating for Conservation in Chizhou of Anhui by CBCGDF & CCAfa Volunteers
With
the Spring Festival approaching, the culinary market is ablaze with consumer
fervor. In an effort to promote the conservation of wildlife, foster a
reverence for nature, and respect all forms of life, on February 7th, the China
Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and its
Community Conservation Areas for Swans, along with State Grid's Anhui Branch's
Wangchi Bird Protection Innovative Workstation, collaborated with the Youth
League of Chizhou City Committee, Guichi District Forestry Bureau, Chizhou City
Market Supervision and Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Support
Team, and Guichi Sub-bureau of Chizhou Public Security Bureau Forest Police
Brigade. Together, they conducted the "Zero Eating Wildlife, Celebrate the
2024 New Year of the Dragon" themed publicity campaign.
During
the event, volunteers from CBCGDF and personnel from relevant departments
ventured into Chizhou's main urban areas, such as Qingyang Road Vegetable
Market and Cuibai Road Vegetable Market. They posted "Say No to Game
Meat" initiatives and "Farewell to Game Meat, Prosperity through
Dragon Paper-cut Window Flowers," distributed promotional materials, and
educated market operators on the legal aspects of wildlife protection and the
importance of adopting a healthy dietary mindset.
Simultaneously,
during market promotion and visits, volunteers from CBCGDF-CCAfa and various
departmental staff jointly inspected poultry sales windows, examined hotel
ingredient freezers, and reminded relevant personnel about the importance of
rejecting game meat. In the bustling atmosphere preceding the Lunar New Year,
the citizens of Chizhou welcomed the advocacy for "Say no Wildlife Bush
Meat, Healthy Lunar New Year" from volunteers and staff. This initiative
ensured a broader dissemination of knowledge regarding wildlife protection laws
and healthy eating habits.
Peng
Yuhang, a college student volunteer participating in such activities for the
first time, expressed, this campaign has made me deeply aware of the importance
of protecting wildlife. During the event, we educated citizens about the
dangers of consuming wildlife, such as carrying bacteria and disrupting
ecosystems. Many people expressed their willingness to reject widlife as food,
which made me very pleased." At the same time, Peng Yuhang also realized
during the event that "although individual efforts may seem small, as long
as everyone works together, we can contribute greater strength to the
protection of wildlife and the ecological environment."
Wildlife
is part of the planet shared with humanity, and we should resist the temptation
of hunt them for food and damange biodiversity, collectively advocating for a
new trend of green-consumptions. The organizers expressed satisfaction with the
effectiveness of this event, hoping that more citizens would understand that
hunting wild animals is not only illegal but may also bring possible zoonotic
diseases. They aspire for the abandonment of game meat, collectively ushering
in the joyous festivities of the Year of the Dragon.
In
the relentless pursuit of wildlife conservation, the China Biodiversity
Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has been at the
forefront, tirelessly advocating for the protection of wild animals. With a
steadfast commitment to elevating public awareness and mainstreaming
biodiversity, CBCGDF has emerged as a beacon of change.
