Prof. Scott Rozelle's Lecture on Common Prosperity in Rural China | CBCGDF Media Matrix

At 9:00 am Beijing time on January 21, 2024, Prof. Scott Rozelle gave a lecture on Common Prosperity in Rural China, which was broadcasted live on the Baidu live streaming platform of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF).

Over the past forty years, China’s economy has grown at an astonishing rate. The country's long-term plan is to continue stable growth and reach high income levels in the next 15 years. However, Chinese leaders fully understand that this is facing a well-known challenge, which is that China's development imbalance is also among the highest in the world. Therefore, the government has launched a major new policy called "Common Prosperity". Prof. Scott Rozelle believes that in order to create an environment in China where all residents can enjoy the country's progress towards prosperity, significant efforts must be made in the field of Early Childhood Development (ECD), with a focus on rural populations. Starting from explaining that common prosperity should address the problem of China's largest underclass (rural children), the lecture combines literature and self-collected data to provide high-quality empirical evidence and concludes that the government needs to take swift action to launch parent training programs in rural areas of China in the near future.
