Poison Fishing Exposed in Suihua City on the Hulan River | CBCGDF Volunteers and the Local Fishery Law Enforcement Brigade Joint Patrol

This winter, volunteers of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF) Suihua Wetland Community Conservation Area, together with the local agricultural and fishery law enforcement brigade, continued to carry out ecological patrols in the upper and lower reaches of the Hulan River.

Recently, CBCGDF Suihua Wetland Conservation Area volunteers and the local agricultural and fishery brigade conducted joint patrols in Wangkui County, Suihua City. When they arrived at the Qinjia section of the Hulan River, CBCGDF volunteers found many dead fish in the nets pulled up from the ice caves on the river. The volunteers then visited local villagers and learned that someone was poisoning the upper reaches of the Hulan River, causing many fish to be poisoned to death. The volunteers reported that since rivers are still covered with ice and snow, there is no way to know how many fish have been poisoned on the surface of the river. The local fishery law enforcement brigade immediately reported to the municipal fishery  administration, which said it would supervise the case.

CBCGDF volunteers pointed out that due to the conscientious and responsible fishery law enforcement officers along the river, the illegal fishing in the Hulan River this winter was much less than in previous years, and there were not many holes in the river for fishing.
