CBCGDF Receives A Draft Proposal for the Integration of Biodegradable Packaging | Advisory Seminar before Two Sessions 2024 (1)

In the quest for advancing both biodiversity protection and green development, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (referred to as the China Green Development Foundation or Green Foundation) has set the stage for the upcoming "2024 Two Sessions Advisory Meeting" scheduled for February 1, 2024. As part of their initiative, the foundation has reached out to diverse sectors of society, seeking high-quality proposals that address the crucial issues of biodiversity conservation and the promotion of sustainable development.

One noteworthy proposal, submitted by a company based in Fujian recently, has spotlighted the imperative need to amplify the use of biodegradable packaging for daily essentials. According to the proposal, the packaging industry in China consumed approximately 49.2 million tons of plastic in 2022, with soft plastic packaging constituting a substantial 67% of this total consumption. Recognizing the escalating concern over pollution caused by non-degradable soft plastic packaging in our daily lives, the proposal emphasizes that intensifying the dissemination of biodegradable alternatives stands as the optimal solution.

The stark reality of the situation is that the cost of biodegradable packaging currently surpasses that of traditional plastic packaging by 50%. To address this economic hurdle and pave the way for widespread adoption, it is imperative for governmental bodies to formulate policies that support both the usage and production of biodegradable plastic packaging.

Acknowledging the economic disparity between traditional and biodegradable packaging, it is evident that governmental intervention is essential. By providing incentives and subsidies, authorities can mitigate the financial burden on companies opting for eco-friendly alternatives. This approach aligns with the overarching goal of fostering sustainability within the packaging industry. Moreover, the proposal underscores the need for a holistic approach, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between economic development and environmental conservation. The adoption of biodegradable packaging not only mitigates pollution but also reflects a commitment to building a harmonious coexistence between human activities and the natural world.

The above Draft Motion is from a private company addressing solutions to plastic solution.

——————ABOUT Two Sessions——————

The Two Sessions, denoted as "两会" in Chinese, encapsulate the pinnacle of China's political discourse, bringing together the eminent voices of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Annually convened every March within the majestic confines of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, these plenary sessions serve as the crucible where the nation's most significant policies and strategies are forged.

In this symbolic convergence, delegates from the NPC, representing the legislative arm of the government, join forces with members of the CPPCC, comprising individuals from various sectors, including business, academia, and cultural spheres. Together, they engage in meticulous deliberations, dissecting the multifaceted challenges facing the nation and formulating comprehensive solutions that resonate with the diverse needs of the Chinese populace.

The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), as the nation's sole national scientific association focused on both "Biodiversity" and "Green Development," bears the vital responsibility of serving all technological professionals in these domains. In anticipation of the annual Two Sessions in March, the CBCGDF proactively organizes consultative meetings, acting as a crucial bridge to gather decision-making consultation drafts from scientists and stakeholders in biodiversity, green development, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This unique platform fosters dialogue, partnership and bottom-up collaboration, ensuring the subsequent Two Sessions are enriched with diverse insights (esp. from grassroots and those with vivid first-hand experieces), reflecting the organization's dedication to shaping national agendas in the realms of biodiversity conservation and green development.
