Bird News Report: Oriental White Storks Staying Around the Bohai Sea Have Begun to Build Nests

Recently, CBCGDF bird observers along the coast of the Bohai Sea reported that a small number of Oriental White Storks staying in the Bohai Sea wetlands have begun to build nests, and great bustards, red-crowned cranes, gray cranes, relict gulls, geese, ducks, and shorebirds are the overwintering birds. Since rivers and lakes are still frozen in land areas, these migratory birds that stay in the north are mainly concentrated in the estuaries of rivers on the west coast of the Bohai Sea, as well as coastal waters and around islands.

Near the newly built photovoltaic high-voltage lines around the Bohai Sea, bird observers reported that during patrols, they have discovered that small migratory birds such as terns and relict gulls have been injured and died when they collided with the lines, and this often occurs at night when the bird's visibility is poor.

If there are a large number of wintering migratory birds swarming near the power grid, which is their feeding or resting place, it is recommended to pay attention to recent severe weather such as heavy storms, heavy snow and frost, and pay attention to timely patrols and rescues around the lines. For line sections that are prone to line collisions, it is recommended to install colored warning balls, warning signs, etc.. For lines with rare birds such as Oriental white storks that have entered the breeding period, patrols can be appropriately increased to ensure the safety of their breeding periods and carry out science popularization and protection mobilization in surrounding communities around migratory bird activity areas.
