CBCGDF West Dongting Lake Wetland Community Conservation Area (CCAfa214) in Hanshou County, Hunan Province will be Established

Recently, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received an application to establish the West Dongting Lake Wetland Community Conservation Area(CCAfa214) in Hanshou County, Hunan province. The  CCAfa214 is about to be established.


West Dongting Lake Wetland Community Conservation Area is located in Hanshou County, Hunan Province. West Dongting Lake is the western throat of Dongting Lake. The area has rivers, lakes, swamps, artificial wetlands and other wetland ecological types, plants, animals and landscapes, etc.. On November 30, 2023, the Forestry and Grassland Administration released the "National List of Critical Habitats for Terrestrial Wild Animals (Batch 1 )", and the West Dongting Lake in Hanshou, Hunan was selected as an important habitat for migratory birds.

The West Dongting Lake Wetland Community Conservation Area is a wetland ecosystem and wetland bird sanctuary of great scientific research and protection value. There are many species and numbers of birds in the area. More than 200 species of birds have been recorded in total. Among them, there are many species of first- and second-level protected birds, especially the black stork, gray crane, oriental white stork, white-tailed sea eagle, and swans. 

Establishing the West Dongting Lake Wetland Community Conservation Area aims to strengthen the protection, restoration and reconstruction of the wetland ecosystem, provide a good living environment for various local rare birds, and promote the protection of local biodiversity. In addition, through conservation actions and publicity activities, more people can realize the importance of West Dongting Lake, jointly carry out biodiversity conservation of the West Dongting Lake.
