Looking back at top moments for the Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighbourhood in 2023

Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood(BCON), promotes inclusive participation in nature protection and restoration, across all parts of the landscape, and all members of society. BCON is an approach that encourages protection of biodiversity in people's daily life and activities. This includes minimizing human disturbances to nature, reducing disturbance to wildlife, protecting biodiversity, cherishing the value of wilderness, and conserving natural habitats in human's surrounding areas. As a complement our Community Conservation areas (CCAfas) promotes and facilitates conservation of species and ecosystems by enabling communities to protect and promote their natural heritage.

We have seen multiple successes in the last year.

lThe successful signing and cooperation between BCON and COMVITA has brought a fundamental change in people’s understanding of BCON, and supported the livelihood of the beekeepers. (2023)

lLiuba County certified by BCON as "Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighbourhood Demonstration Area".BCON combines the special location advantages and biodiversity characteristics of "Qinling Mountains" and "Central Water Tower" in Liuba, Shaanxi, guided, certified and awarded  "Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighbourhood Demonstration Area" in Liuba. Liuba County has a high forest coverage rate, rich wild animal and plant species resources, for example, Nipponia nippon,Budorcas taxicolor, etc..

lBCON and State Grid have signed contracts and cooperated for many years, which has realized the protection of animals and their habitats within the reach of  State Grid and increasing the biodiversity conservation awareness of  the local communities. (2021 to 2023)

1. The second session of the 18th International Congress on Genomics(ICG-18)  themed "  Soil:

Cradle of Food&Mother of a Green World on December 5, 2023

2.The 2023 International Climate Conference with the theme of "Dual Carbon Goals and Environmental Services" on September 3, 2023.

3.The Third Symposium on Conservation and Benefit Sharing of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and 

Agriculture, on May 23, 2023.

4.International Conference on Biodiversity, on May 22, 2023

5.2023 World Youth Scientists Summit One Health Forum(2023 WYSS One Health Forum), on April 26, 2023.

New Partnerships:

1.Liuba County (certified on 28th November,  2023, by BCON as "Biodiversity Conservation in Our neighborhood Demonstration Area".)

2.Wenzhou-Kean University( jointly promoting the "One Health" working method)

COMVITA( The cooperation between CBCGDF BCON and COMVITA was launched in 14th November,2023 to support the livelihood of beekeepers.)

3.Volkswagen Financial Services( The cooperation between CBCGDF BCON and COMVITA started in February,2023)

4.State Grid (BCON and State Grid began to cooperate since 2021. )

BGI Genomics( cooperation in the research of  biological and genetic diversity)

Awards

BCON CCAfa won the 2023 (Top Ten) Influential Public Welfare Project Award in China;

In 2021,  BCON "Mom's Kitchen" project was awarded  "Food System Vision Prize"  by Rockefeller Foundation.
