CBCGDF Deputy Secretary-General Visits FAO China

On January 12, 2024, Mr. William XIAO, Deputy Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), visited the Representative Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in China, to have an effective exchange and discussion with Assistant Representative, Mr. Zhang Zhongjun on supporting domestic enterprises in the localization of ecological aquaculture technology to promote sustainable development.

They
happily reviewed the friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two parties in recent years. Then, in combination with specific project plans, Mr. XIAO introduced that CBCGDF supports domestic enterprises, builds a project cultivation mechanism to promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations on a global scale based on high-quality development strategies and international cooperation mechanisms, and explores, carries out and innovates cooperation with the private sector to promote China's high-quality development and the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

Mr. Zhang introduced the cooperation projects
of the FAO implemented in China, and confirmed that through cooperation with the private sector, the use of innovative and flexible science and technology and development experience of the private sector can promote high-quality and sustainable development of China's agricultural sector in the future.

Both parties agreed that the talks have laid a good foundation for launching substantive project cooperation, and look forward to strengthening communication and exchanges on the high-quality and sustainable development of China's agriculture in the future.

Since 2016,
CBCGDF has been working hard to promote communication and cooperation between China and the secretariat of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) of FAO, and recommends that China accede to the Treaty at an early date. In March 2019, July 2019 and May 2023, with the support of representatives of the FAO Office in China, the two parties held three seminars on the Protection of Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.
