CBCGDF CCAfa214 West Lake Dongting Wetland Protection Area was Established!

The project department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received an application to establish the Hunan West Dongting Wetland Reserve. After careful evaluation and approval, it was decided to establish the Hunan West Dongting Wetland Reserve.

The West Dongting Lake National Nature Reserve is a wetland ecosystem and wetland bird sanctuary of great scientific research and protection value. There are various species and large numbers of birds in the area. A total of more than 200 species of birds have been recorded. Among them, there are many species of first- and second-level protected birds, such as black storks, gray cranes, oriental white storks, white-tailed sea eagles, and swans that thrive here.

 

To protect precious wetland resources, the local government strongly supports environmental volunteers in carrying out a series of long-term protection works. Staff from law enforcement units and volunteers from nearby villages have been patrolling the area of the West Dongting Lake Internationally Important Wetland and nearby villages day and night to ensure that the wetland ecological environment is effectively protected. Thanks to their efforts, West Dongting Lake has become an important habitat for migratory birds, with a large number of rare bird species coming here to spend the winter every year.
