CBCGDF's Consistent Efforts in Bridging Science and Policy | Advisory Seminar before Chinese Two Sessions 2024 (2)

The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) stands as the singular national scientific association in China bearing the titles of "Biodiversity" and "Green Development." This distinction underscores its mission as the exclusive scientific association at the national level dedicated to serving the mission of all scientific professionals within these two domains, as well as conservationists, citizen scientists, grassroot environmentalists and other stateholders. Consequently, prior to the formal convening of the annual Two Sessions in March, the CBCGDF proactively organizes consultative meetings. These gatherings serve as an effective bridge, facilitating the collection of decision-making consultation drafts from scientists and multi-stakeholders in the fields of biodiversity, green development, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), field workers, citizen scientists and beyond.

These sessions play a vital role in fostering dialogue, gathering insights, and collating decision-making consultation drafts from a spectrum of scientific professionals and stakeholders. The 2024 Advisory event will be held on Feb 1st 2024, and the Foundation is actively preparing for the upcoming discussion these days.

These consultative meetings serve as a dynamic platform where experts and stakeholders from the realms of biodiversity, green development, and SDGs converge. The objective is to craft informed and collaborative proposals that resonate with the intricacies of these fields. By actively engaging with decision-makers, the CBCGDF endeavors to provide a platform for a comprehensive array of various and diversed perspectives, ensuring that the subsequent deliberations during the Two Sessions are enriched with diverse insights.

Usually, it's not a easy task in filling the gap between science and policy. In essence, the CBCGDF's commitment to hosting these pre-Two Sessions consultative meetings exemplifies its dedication to nurturing a harmonious relationship between scientific expertise and policy formulation. The collaborative efforts undertaken in these forums not only reflect the organization's role in the help of shaping national agendas but also underscore its unwavering commitment to advancing the cause of biodiversity conservation and green development on a grand scale.

Since 2016, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has designated "Decision Consultation" as one of its core areas of focus. Through the consecutive organization of the National "Two Sessions" Proposal Meetings for six years, the CBCGDF has centered on the most pressing and valuable issues of societal concern. It actively collects proposals related to green development and ecological civilization construction from various sectors, including relevant Chinese authorities, social organizations, and environmental volunteers. The foundation facilitates direct communication between proposers and national delegates of the National People's Congress and members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. This interaction has established a streamlined communication platform for Two Sessions proposals/motions, with over 40 proposals gaining official approval and submission by delegates and lawmakers.

——————ABOUT Two Sessions——————

The Two Sessions, denoted as "两会" in Chinese, encapsulate the pinnacle of China's political discourse, bringing together the eminent voices of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Annually convened every March within the majestic confines of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, these plenary sessions serve as the crucible where the nation's most significant policies and strategies are forged.

In this symbolic convergence, delegates from the NPC, representing the legislative arm of the government, join forces with members of the CPPCC, comprising individuals from various sectors, including business, academia, education, scientific and cultural spheres etc. Together, they engage in meticulous deliberations, dissecting the multifaceted challenges facing the nation and formulating comprehensive solutions that resonate with the diverse needs of the Chinese populace.

The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), as the nation's sole national scientific association focused on both "Biodiversity" and "Green Development," bears the vital responsibility of serving all technological professionals in these domains. In anticipation of the annual Two Sessions in March, the CBCGDF proactively organizes consultative meetings, acting as a crucial bridge to gather decision-making consultation drafts from scientists and stakeholders in biodiversity, green development, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This platform fosters dialogue, partnership and bottom-up collaboration, ensuring the subsequent Two Sessions are enriched with diverse insights (esp. from grassroots and those with vivid first-hand experieces), reflecting the organization's dedication to shaping national agendas in the realms of biodiversity conservation and green development.
