People vs. Plastics: CBCGDF Volunteers Lead a Campaign for Ocean Protection and River Cleanup | PP - 014

In a vibrant initiative to raise awareness about ocean protection and plastic reduction, volunteers from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), led by volunteer Fu Biao, organized an engaging event on January 20, 2024, at the Leting Library in Tangshan, Hebei. The event featured a dynamic "flipped classroom" session focusing on marine conservation specifically designed for college students, aiming to enhance public awareness of plastic reduction.

Starting at 9:30 in the morning, three groups of local college students who had returned to their hometowns passionately explained various marine species, shared knowledge about ocean conservation, and emphasized the importance of reducing plastic usage. The event also included interactive games such as indoor "ocean plastic cleanup," answering plastic reduction questions, writing marine species names, and assembling a puzzle depicting the natural degradation timeline of ocean waste.

In the afternoon, at 13:30, the venue shifted to the Leting River Basin (Cui Jingzhe Art Museum section), where a river cleanup activity was conducted. Comprising local students and returning college students, the volunteer team first received instructions on the cleanup process. Following a solemn volunteer oath, the participants, undeterred by the cold weather, energetically embarked on garbage collection. Through activities like waste sorting, counting, and weighing, it became evident that plastic waste dominated both in quantity and weight, underscoring the urgent need for plastic reduction. The event concluded with a resounding chant of "People vs. Plastics, an imperative global battle."

The "People vs. Plastics" project is an environmental protection initiative initiated by the CBCGDF's "Plastic Reduction and Cleanup" task force. Aligned with the theme of the 2024 World Earth Day, "Planet vs. Plastics," the project aims to foster an ecological civilization where humans coexist harmoniously with nature.
