Fostering Sustainable Development Youth Talents: A Collaborative Journey between CBCGDF and BNU-HKBU UIC

In a pursuit of nurturing exceptional talents dedicated to sustainable development, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation's International Department (CBCGDF) and the Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (BNU-HKBU UIC) Globalization and Development (GAD) program joined forces to launch the "Sustainable Development Talent Training Program." This initiative, which has consistently recommended young talents to pursue advanced studies at renowned global institutions and take on roles in international organizations, marks a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The partnership bore fruit in May 2021 when the UIC's Globalization and Development Program and CBCGDF International Department, along with the "Going Global" office, inaugurated the "Sustainability Leadership Platform for Sustainable Development Talents" project. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the two entities solidified their commitment to fostering outstanding young talents. CBCGDF, guided by the principle of nurturing excellence, pledged to provide UIC students with diverse international experiential opportunities, facilitating deep engagement in international case decision-making and the planning of projects with practical significance in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. For example:

During the summer of 2021, several UIC undergraduates actively participated in the CBCGDF delegation to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) annual meeting, showcasing their dedication to biodiversity and ecosystem services. The experiences helped their later work and study.

On April 16, 2022, the CBCGDF supported the UIC Sustainable Development Research Group (SDRG), founded by GAD students, in organizing the 2022 academic forum themed "Sustainable Development: A New Paradigm for Higher Education."

In September 2022, a student nominated by CBCGDF through the joint initiative, was officially selected as one of the 26 global council members of the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council (2022-2023). Remarkably, he is the sole representative from Chinese mainland.

In March 2023, CBCGDF International Department recommended outstanding Asian youth, including an excellent young lady, to serve as the Ambassador for Asia in the Global Environmental Alliance, further exemplifying their commitment to promoting environmental stewardship on a global scale.

Since 2021, CBCGDF has written recommendation letters for numerous outstanding UIC students, assisting them in realizing their dreams of studying at prestigious institutions. For instance, a student who interned at CBCGDF International Department from 2021 to 2022, received offers from Yale University, New York University, Columbia University, and the London School of Economics and Political Science. He chose to pursue further studies at Yale University.

The CBCGDF International Department and the "Going Global" office have long been dedicated to cultivating outstanding Chinese youth who aspire to contribute globally to science and environmental governance. Their efforts aim to provide opportunities for idealistic, passionate, responsible, and committed Chinese youth to step onto the global stage, narrating compelling stories, echoing positive voices, and showcasing the exemplary qualities and talents of the Chinese youth generation. In recent years, the International Department has actively engaged exceptional volunteers and interns in significant policy revisions, international projects, and forum planning, while also recommending outstanding students to prestigious global institutions.
