Conophytum Were Sent in Pinduoduo Live Broadcast Room | Clean Internet for Conophytum
Recently, the China Biodiversity
Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received a letter from
volunteers reporting that some merchants on the Pinduoduo e-commerce platform
are selling conophytum from their production areas in their live broadcast
rooms. The cultivation and maintenance of horticultural conophytum require
time, therefore, driven by interests, poachers illegally harvest wild meat
cones, leading to a sharp decrease in wild populations. Nowadays, all species
of the Conophytum have entered Appendix III of the CITES Convention.
In March 2023, the Legal Work Committee of CBCGDF
sent a letter to major e-commerce platforms requesting that the sale and
promotion of related wild conophytum be taken down as soon as possible.
However, there are still unscrupulous merchants who ignore legal regulations
and continue to sell them. As an e-commerce platform, Pinduoduo should take the
social responsibility of the enterprise. As consumers, we should also
consciously identify and understand the species we want to purchase.
