China Biodiversity Conservation Foundation's Rapid Expansion of CBCGDF Community Conservation Areas: A Milestone in Biodiversity Protection Efforts

In 2016, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDFl) innovatively proposed “CBCGDF Community Conservation Areas (CBCGDF CCAfa)” “anytime and anywhere”. The CBCGDF CCAfa is a national biodiversity protection system advocated and operated by civil society organizations.

Since its establishment, CBCGDF CCAfa has continued to grow and develop. Among them, in 2021, 14 newly established CBCGDF CCAfa were established in cooperation with the government, enterprises, and civil society organizations. The protected species include a variety of organisms such as the Rhododendron aureum, Cycas fairylakea, Sika deer (Cervus nippon), Tibetan antelope(Pantholops hodgsonii), Chinese merganser (Mergus squamatus), Guanzhuang pig, and Chinese crested tern (Thalasseus bernsteini).

As of January 2024, 213 CBCGDF CCAfa have been established in more than 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country and 1 overseas community. Encompasses various types including natural ecosystems, biodiversity, ecological landscapes, etc. The protected objects are diverse, involving ecosystems, wildlife, plants, natural landscapes (such as millennium bird migration routes, Dark and Starry Sky), and cultural landscapes (such as ancient temples, ancient villages, etc.). The conservation efforts have achieved significant results.

CBCGDF CCAfa has consistently been a top priority in the biodiversity conservation efforts of the CBCGDF. After years of continuous efforts, they are promoted and developed rapidly and steadily. Each "CBCG protected area" is the result of the hard work and efforts of many people, and contains Chinese practices and useful explorations in biodiversity conservation. In the future, we hope that more organizations, enterprises and individuals will support this work, and join us in building a beautiful China!
