Why the global scaling up of the Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighbourhood (BCON) matters?

Through a decade practice and accumulation, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has discovered that people’s participation is extremely crucial to success.

On this basis, Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighbourhood(BCON) Initiative, a solution to biodiversity crisis proposed in 2021, has produced significant results after three years of practiceBCON can provide a mechanism of mainstreaming conservation as a major approach to counteract biodiversity emergency. Fortress conservation alone is not sufficient to conserve most species, and by engaging and mainstreaming, as well as empowering people across nationswe can successfully conserve biodiversity at all scales.

Whthe global scaling up of the BCON mattersThe most important reason is that various vested interests (including governments, enterprises, etc.), out of the pursuit of development of industrial civilization and of GDP growth, are desperately suppressing us for their own interests. If BCON successfully scales upit will highlight importance of our endeavors, and will likely provide much greater support domestically, as well as inspiring similar approaches internationally. The resulting impact will be immeasurable, and the effect on biodiversity protection will be very obvious, and will bring fundamental global changesWe thus believe BCON is the fundamental solution to biodiversity crisis. BCON engages and empowers all of society, and in doing so provides new means of effectively conserving biodiversity across landscapes.
