More than 500 injured & trapped birds rescued over the past 9 years | Qian'an 2 Wildlife Conservation Organizations (Hebei) applied to join CBCGDF CCAfa

Qian'an City is located at the southern foot of Yanshan Mountain in the northeastern part of Hebei Province. The Luanhe River runs through the city. The entire urban area is dependent on mountains and rivers and is rich in wild animal and plant resources. Recently, CBCGDF received a joint application from the city’s Wildlife Conservation Association and Wildlife Rescue Station, hoping to be part of CBCGDF Community Conservation Area (CCAfa).

Located in the warm temperate zone with semi-humid continental monsoon climate, Qian'an City is an area with abundant biodiversity. At present, there are more than 80 kinds of medicinal wild plants, more than 60 kinds of ornamental wild plants, more than 50 kinds of wild trees, and more than 600 kinds of herbaceous wild plants known in Qian'an City; and there are more than 260 kinds of wild animals, including more than 200 kinds of birds, 9 kinds of animals and 5 kinds of reptiles.

At the same time, Qian'an is also an important transit point on the migratory route of migratory birds from East Asia to Australasia, with hundreds of migratory bird species passing through here every year. Especially in recent years, Qian'an City has invested more than 8 billion yuan in comprehensive ecological management on a large scale, forming a 14-square-kilometer Huangtai Lake beauty within the city limits and more than 5,000 acres of islands available for development and construction, attracting many rare birds to come to live and breed. Monitoring records in recent years show that: in April 2022, more than 100 groups of Oriental white storks, a key wildlife under national protection, landed in Huangtai Lake; the annual wintering gray crane family reaches hundreds; Longshan has become a major breeding ground for egrets and night herons, with the number of thousands; the number of migratory birds passing through the area during the migration season of spring and fall each year is increasing year by year.

In 2014, in order to protect the rich local wildlife resources, Qian'an established the Wildlife Conservation Association and Wildlife Rescue Agency, which specializes in undertaking a large amount of work such as wildlife protection, sheltering and rescuing. According to statistics, since the establishment of Qian'an Wildlife Conservation Association and Wildlife Rescue Organization, it has rescued more than 500 injured and stranded birds within the city, especially during the nesting period of young birds in summer each year, which focuses on rescuing a large number of small and medium-sized raptor chicks and young birds.

"There are a lot of raptors in Qian'an. Not counting the populations that migrate every year, there are also many that breed locally. Therefore, we hope to establish a CCAfa to better protect and rescue them." Qian'an City Wildlife Protection The relevant person in charge of the association said that the planned raptor protection area will be located in Qian'an Huangtai Lake and its adjacent Longshan area. Currently, the Qian'an Wildlife Conservation Association covers an area of 3,274 square meters, which can meet the needs of local raptors. It can also accommodate the raptor shelter and rescue work in neighboring counties.
