CBCGDF OceanWetlands Working Group Held a Meeting to Support the Global Implementation of the 'Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework' for Wetlands

On December 21, 2023, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation's Ocean and Wetlands Working Group (CBCGDF-OceanWetlands) convened a working meeting on the "Online Questionnaire Released by the Ramsar Convention — Supporting the Global Implementation of the 'Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework' for Wetlands. The meeting focused on a questionnaire on Upscaling wetland conservation, restoration and wise use through the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs): Identifying Synergies Between CBD and Convention on Wetlands Focal Points. The questionnaire, developed by the Ramsar Convention's Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP), aims to support the global implementation of the "Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework" (KM-GBF) for wetlands.

The central agenda of the working meeting was to discuss responses to the questionnaire. This survey, aligned with the STRP's 2023-2025 work plan under Task 5.2 "Guidance to support global implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) for wetlands,'" addresses synergies with other Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs).

The survey's objectives include sharing information with the national focal points of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Ramsar Convention. It primarily seeks to determine the extent of connections among national focal points in revising National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and identify potential case studies and stories for inclusion in future guidelines for wetlands and the KM-GBF.

Over the years, CBCGDF-OceanWetlands has been committed to promoting biodiversity conservation in oceans and wetlands, actively engaging in decision consulting at global, national, and local levels. During the working group meeting on December 21, some topics related to wetlands conservation, restoration, and sustainable & wise use within the global biodiversity framework were discussed. The meeting addressed the crucial role of NBSAPs in wetland protection, identified shortcomings, proposed recommendations to strengthen synergies between different conventions, and presented specific suggestions in two key areas.
