The Information on Biodiversity and Ancient Trees Open to the Public | CBCGDF BCON Submitted Suggestions on the “Management Measures for Urban Parks (Draft for Comments)”

Recently, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China issued the “Management Measures for Urban Parks (Draft for Comments)” and has publicly solicited opinions from the society to promote the development of urban parks and improve urban ecology and living environment. The Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood Working Group (BCON) of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) organized research and discussion, and put forward 8 suggestions on the draft.

The sixth suggestion recommends the information on biodiversity and ancient trees be made open to the public. Transparency and disclosure of this information helps the public understand the biodiversity around them, increase public awareness of the ecological value of urban parks, promote biodiversity conservation in our neighborhood, and participate in ecological conservation and park activities. In addition, publicly disclosing information on ancient trees helps to protect the historical and cultural heritage within the park, while also raising peoples awareness of protecting ancient trees. Transparent information can also promote public’s participation and supervision, and working together to maintain the ecological balance and cultural heritage of urban parks.
