Ecological Assessments should be Conducted before Urban Light shows to Prevent Light Pollution | CBCGDF BASE
In
recent years, light shows, as a unique way of celebration and performance
around the world, have increasingly appeared in people's lives. The light
pollution problems they have caused have also quietly spread, becoming a
potential threat to the ecological environment. Recently, the Biological and
Scientific Ethics Committee (BASE) of the China Biodiversity Conservation and
Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) learned an official statement from the
SEO/BirdLife, in which they pointed out that "light pollution" not
only exacerbates the occupation of ecological space and the threat to
biodiversity, but also leads to significant energy consumption and
environmental impacts.
The impact of light pollution is not limited to interfering with the biological clocks of humans and animals, but also has a deeper impact on the wild animals such as birds and insects and the entire ecological balance.
The
SEO/BirdLife has made a series of calls aimed at slowing down the spread of
light pollution, protecting urban ecological balance, including suggesting
cautious selection of exhibition venues, advocating energy conservation,
conducting scientific evaluations of light show activities, and raising public
awareness of ecological protection.
