UNFCCC COP28 – CBCGDF Delegate Attends the Special Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit

On December 4, Dr. Edoardo Monaco, the CBCGDF Representative at COP28 was invited to participate in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit, a global gathering of prominent leaders from government, civil society, and, above all, the private sector.

The private sector is crucial in the global quest towards sustainable development, not only because it drives most of the growth worldwide, but also because it is simultaneously responsible for much of the environmental problems of our time as well as for the innovation processes that can identify, develop and ultimately deploy concrete solutions.

The ADSW COP28 Summit showcased a number of very interesting perspectives and strategies, presented by the likes of, among others: Charles Yang, President, Global Marketing, Sales and Services, Huawei Digital Power, discussing the overall future of energy ecosystems; Jochen Wermuth and Gunter Pauli, presenting their perspectives on the next generation of circularity; Luiz de Mendonça from Acelen, who explained the use of macauba for biofuel; Cate Ambrose, Chief Executive Officer and Board Member, The Global Private Capital Association, speaking of her role within the United Nations Institutional Investor Partnership for Sustainable Development (IIPSD); Dr Sebastian Groh of ME SOLshare Ltd., boldly calling for “democratisation of climate innovation” via investment in projects like rickshaw virtual power plants in Bangladesh; Wayne Mulligan, CEO of NZ Bio Forestry, advocating "sustainagility" and the truly full harnessing of natural assets and environmental services; Lou Cooperhousefrom BlueNalu, speaking of cell-cultured seafood; Dr Thomas Becker, Vice President Sustainability, BMW Group, discussing efforts to reduce the carbon footprint along the production chain behind electric vehicles; Abdulnasser Ibrahim Saif Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, assessing the role of aluminium industry and its recycling processes in a low-carbon economy.
