CBCGDF-BCON: Urban Parks should Pay Attention to the Protection and Preservation of Natural Wilderness

Recently, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has issued a notice on the public consultation on the “Measures for the Management of Urban Parks (Draft for Comments)” to widely solicit opinions, promote the development of urban parks and improve the urban ecology and human environment. The “Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood” Working Group of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF-BCON) responded positively to the call, and after serious discussion, put forward 8 suggestions in total for reference in its scientific decision-making. The following is [Recommendation 8].

 


[Recommendation 8]“Measures for the Management of Urban Parks (Draft for Comments)” should clearly reflect that urban parks should pay attention to the protection and preservation of natural wilderness.

 


[Reason]

(1) Wilderness is a treasure of natural biodiversity, containing precious plant and animal species. At the same time, wilderness is also a natural "seed bank", keeping a variety of plant seeds that can survive and reproduce in the natural environment.

 

(2) The pursuit of the appearance of uniform green plants and the excessive management of "weeds" is common problems in contemporary landscaping, leading to the rapid loss of biodiversity in the city. In the era of ecological civilization in which all people build a community of life together, we urgently need to re-understand the value of urban wilderness, and consciously carry out the practice of "Rewild" in the construction of various parks, suburbs, and pocket gardens.
