Social Impact by Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON) Initiative: A Win-Win Tool for SDGs

BCON (Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood) has emerged as an effective solution to address the rapid loss of biodiversity, leaving a lasting impact through various initiatives. The following overview highlights BCON's key measures and the significant achievements it has made thus far.

Firstly, BCON has provided some subsidies to volunteers, allowing them to engage in social services without the burden of financial concerns and invest substantial time in conservation efforts. By supporting social organizations through philanthrophic trusts methods, BCON has helped grassroot environmental groups by creating employment opportunities. Additionally, significant funds have been allocated to the stray animal project, advocating the philosophy of anti-animal-abuse, and supporting the project's sustainable development and generating some job opportunities. These measures not only garnered attention in society but also showcased BCON's active role in fostering social harmony and creating employment opportunities.

Secondly, BCON's conservation measures have had a remarkable positive impact on the operation of the national power grid. The implemented protective measures have substantially reduced the failure rate (such as avoid birds collisions with powerlines), achieving a win-win situation for the National State Grid and all electricity customers. This exemplifies BCON's practical contribution to sustainable development and environmental protection, setting a precedent for the integration of green energy and sustainable practices in the power industry.

Furthermore, BCON has established the Chinese Honeybee Nest Fund, employing market economy means to enhance the sales of traditional beekeepers' products, resulting in improved livelihoods. This initiative not only propels the conservation of traditonal species of pollinators, helped beekeeping industry forward but also contributes to the economic well-being of farmers, demonstrating a triple benefit for ecology, economy and livelihoods.

In addition, BCON has been proactive in advocating for wildlife conservation through policy advisory means. In recent years, the initiative has proposed dozens of suggestions for various laws and regulations, including the wildlife-ban policy advisory. Through engaging activities and events, BCON has emphasized the importance, especially among the younger generation, of refraining from consuming wild animals. This proactive stance is gradually reshaping public perceptions and contributing to comprehensive wildlife protection.

Generally, by mobilising all-stakeholders' conservation efforts, the BCON Initiative has achieved remarkable results across multiple fronts. Its comprehensive measures have not only influenced society but have also yielded positive social benefits in environmental protection, agriculture, and legal development and environmental governacne.
