Latest Development in Clean Internet for Conophytum Operation: Environmental Public Interest Litigation Transferred to Jiangsu Environmental Resources Trial Division for Further Proceedings

The Clean Internet for Conophytum operation, aimed at combatting illegal poaching and the protected trade of Conophytum plants, has seen a stride forward in the environmental public interest litigation brought forth by the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF). In the most recent update, CBCGDF's lawyers received a communication today from the Jiangsu Provincial Higher People's Court regarding the ongoing case.

The notification states, "In the environmental damage compensation litigation case between the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation and Chen Qing, as well as the Yangzhong City Lulu Succulent Planting Professional Cooperative, the court officially accepted the case on December 21, 2023, with the case number (2023) Su Min Zhong 1594. It has been transferred to the Environmental Resources Trial Division for further proceedings."

For an extended period, plant poaching has persistently plagued ecosystems, with wildlife trafficking exacerbating biodiversity loss, particularly in the context of transnational trade. This has led to the inclusion of the entire
Conophytum genus in Appendix III of the CITES convention. Chen Qing, along with his flower nursery, stands accused as one of the key figures responsible for the organized criminal network known as the "North-South Alliance", specifically involved in the illicit trade of Conophytum plants. The prevalence of such criminal activities underscores the urgency to address plant poaching, recognizing its profound impact on global biodiversity and necessitating stringent measures to curb these unlawful practices.
