UNFCCC COP28 – CBCGDF Delegate Attends the Special Event on “Ignite Youth Power: Navigating the Climate Voyage”

On December 12, Mr. Jingxiao He, the CBCGDF Representative at COP28 was invited to participate in the Special Event on Ignite Youth Power: Navigating the Climate Voyage, which was hosted by NextGene and supported by the UAE Ministry of Education, Dubai Government, China Low Carbon Economic Development Promotion Association, University of Surrey, and International Carbon Neutrality Industry Research Institute, focusing on youth action and empowerment.

The meeting was chaired by Lorenzo Fioramonti, founding director of the Institute for Sustainable Development at the University of Surrey in the UK, former Italian Parliament member and Minister of Education, Universities and Research. Hou Yuanqing, Deputy Secretary General of the China Green Carbon Foundation, delivered a speech. He Chaoxin, the first youth officer of the World University Climate Change Alliance (GAUC), Adel Qsaboob, an outstanding legal researcher from the Abu Dhabi government, and Eduard Romulus Goean, a visiting professor at the University of Surrey and VP of the Thermo Group, delivered encouraging speeches as guests.

Eduard Romulus Goean stated that there should be no more regional thinking in the discussion of "carbon" and greenhouse gas emissions leading to climate change. For example, although China is currently a major emitter of greenhouse gases, it is also a "producer" of the world. Western countries should not enjoy products produced in China while blaming, but should have a "full lifecycle" mindset.

Lorenzo Fioramonti emphasized the irreplaceable role and responsibility of youth in the dual carbon transformation and green future. The knowledge, wisdom, and talent of young people are the key driving forces for technological development. Youth should also pay more attention to climate and ecological issues, understand the impact of individual actions, especially consumer behavior, and influence supply from the demand side of the market, thereby affecting production.
