Should We be legally Responsible for Pet Abandonment and Abuse? | Sara Platto, CBCGDF BASE Secretary-General, Attends the first Animal Rule of Law Forum

In order to study the path to the management of human-canine conflicts, the 4th "Legal Issues in the Management of Human-Canine Conflicts" seminar of the first Animal Rule of Law Forum was held online on the afternoon of December 23, 2023.

Professor Sara Platto, Secretary General of the Biological and Scientific Ethics Committee (BASE) of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was invited to participate in this webinar at which she delivered a keynote speech titled "European Legislation on Pets' Abandonment".

In her speech, she introduced relevant legislation on animal protection in European countries, mentioning that in Europe, although cats and dogs are the most common daily companion animals for humans, the EU still does not have a common regulation, but each country has more or less its own national legislation to provide protection for these pets. For example, many countries have corresponding laws and regulations against abandonment and abuse. She hopes that these sharing can bring more inspiration to the issue of managing conflicts between humans and pets in China, and looks forward to countries working together to protect companion animals in the future.

Professor Sara Platto is an Italian expert in animal behavior, welfare and veterinary medicine. She is currently a professor of animal behavior and welfare at the School of Life Sciences of Jianghan University, and serves as the Secretary-General of the Biological and Scientific Ethics Committee of the China Green Development Foundation.
