Illegal Fishing this Year More Serious than in Previous Years | CBCGDF Community Conservation Area Carries out Winter Fishery Protection

In order to maintain the ecological environment of the Hulan River and the sustainable development of fisheries, on November 21, volunteers from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF) Suihua Wetland Conservation Area came to the Beilin section of Suihua City on the Hulan River to carry out river patrol for the fishery protection and cleaning up hanging fishing nets. More than ten nets were taken, and more than a hundred kilograms of catches were rescued, which effectively launched the "first shot" of this winter's river patrol and fishery protection to the illegal fishing .

According to the observations of volunteers, compared with previous years, there are more illegal fishing nets in the northern forest area of the Hulan River this year, and their deployment methods are secretive; overall, the illegal fishing is relatively serious. Because the mesh of these nets is so fine, many young fish cannot escape.

Cleaning up illegal fishing in winter is difficult, and relying solely on the efforts of protected area volunteers is far from enough. At present, relevant departments have not carried out special rectification work on illegal fishing in winter. Volunteers hope they make relevant arrangements as soon as possible to increase the intensity of control and publicity on illegal fishing to create a good ecological environment for fishery resource protection and sustainable development.
