CBCGDF Recommends that "Biodiversity" Be Included in the "Acceptance Procedures for Water Conservancy and Hydro-power Construction Projects (Draft for Comments)"

Recently, the Water Conservancy Engineering Construction Department of the Ministry of Water Resources of the People’s Republic of China issued a notice soliciting opinions on the "Acceptance Procedures for Water Conservancy and Hydro-power Construction Projects (Draft for Comments)".

The International Department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) actively responded to the call, and organized careful research and discussion, then put forward 5 suggestions for scientific decision-making reference. The first suggestion is "biodiversity" is not mentioned in the full text, so it is recommended to add it.

The acceptance procedures for water conservancy and hydro-power construction projects need to consider biodiversity because these projects often affect the surrounding ecological environment, including water, soil and vegetation, etc. By paying attention to biodiversity, it is possible to assess the impact of construction projects on local ecosystems and ensure that measures are taken during construction to minimize disturbance and damage to local flora and fauna, help maintain ecological balance, protect endangered species, and ensures that humans use water resources without causing irreversible damage to the ecosystem.
