CBCGDF’s Volunteer Called for the Pause of Fox Feed

Since the beginning of winter, Heihe City in Heilongjiang has been experiencing heavy snowfall for several days. The thick snow has greatly reduced the food source for wild animals. Recently, a family of red foxes living in the woods died due to being fed too much.


The Research Office of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) believes that under special climate conditions, whether wild animals require artificial feeding subsidies should be based on strict evaluation and argumentation. On the premise that it does not affect the survival of wild animals in the short term, blind feeding of wild animals is not advocated, and love should not become "harmful". Uncontrolled feeding, allowing them to eat too much, coupled with excessive oil content in human food, is not a good thing for wild red foxes, which can easily trigger diseases and change wildlife habits.



In 2019, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) included the red fox in Appendix III; In 2021, China's new version of the "National Key Protected Wildlife List" also listed the red fox as a national second-level key protected wild animal, which is protected by the Wild Animal Protection Law and the Regulations on Nature Reserves of China.
