How NGOs Contribute to the Negotiation of International Conventions? | CBCGDF Delegation for COP28 is Ready to Depart

The delegation of CBCGDF is going to attend UNFCCC COP28 as one of the observers.

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) play a significant role in contributing to international treaty negotiations. NGOs are independent, non-profit operated. They actively participate in various stages of the negotiations, bringing attention to important issues, providing expertise, and advocating for the rights and interests of marginalized groups.

NGOs act as intermediaries between the government and civil society, representing diverse perspectives and raising awareness of key concerns. They conduct research, generate data, and produce reports that contribute to the knowledge base on the subject matter of the treaty. This evidence-based approach enhances the understanding of the potential impacts and effectiveness of proposed policies.

NGOs also have the capacity to mobilize public support and engage communities affected by the issues addressed in the treaty negotiations. Through campaigns, grassroots organizing, and public advocacy, they raise awareness, garner public attention, and put pressure on governments to prioritize certain agendas or adopt specific measures.

Furthermore, NGOs provide platforms for dialogue and collaboration among relevant stakeholders, including governments, international organizations, and other NGOs. They organize conferences, workshops, and side events during negotiation processes, facilitating information exchange, promoting cooperation, and building partnerships.

NGOs can also monitor the implementation and enforcement of international treaties. By holding governments accountable and conducting independent assessments, they help ensure compliance and address gaps or shortcomings in implementation.
