Concrete Pavement Obstructs the Growth and Breathing of Trees

Recently, in an old community in Jinan City, a tree was found to have been “sealed” into the ground because the cement had hardened the road during the renovation of the old community.

Visually, the diameter of the tree is about 20 cm and is a Toona sinensis tree. The root of the tree was firmly sealed with cement. In this case, the tree seems lost its vitality. Some of the branches are withering.

According to the residents of the community, the management of the tree is not clear, there is no specific property company responsible for it. As the residents mentioned, the renovation of the community might be coordinated by the community office.

CBCGDF appeals that the concept of green development and biodiversity conservation should be included in community renovation and construction. Furthermore, the related departments should consider measures to deal with it and let the tree “breathe”.
