Zhou Jinfeng Appointed as Researcher to China International Carbon Neutrality Economic Research Institute and International Business Strategic Research Institute

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), has been appointed as a Researcher at the China International Carbon Neutrality Economic Research Institute and the International Business Strategic Research Institute. This appointment was made during the "China Petroleum Enterprise Association Carbon Neutrality Professional Committee Inaugural Meeting" held in Beijing in October 2023.


The event took place at the Administrative Building of the University of International Business and Economics. During the meeting, Dr. Jiang Qingzhe, former Secretary of the Party Committee of the University of International Business and Economics, and President of the China International Carbon Neutrality Economic Research Institute and the International Business Strategic Research Institute, as well as Chairman of the Carbon Neutrality Professional Committee, presented Dr. Zhou Jinfeng with a letter of appointment. Dr. Zhou was invited to join the research teams at the China International Carbon Neutrality Economic Research Institute and the International Business Strategic Research Institute. Due to Jinfeng's other engagement on that day, Dr. Xiao Qing, Deputy Secretary-General of CBCGDF, attended the meeting and received the appointment letter on his behalf.


This meeting was convened to respond to the major strategic requirements of China's "dual carbon" policy and the future development direction of the energy industry. In 2022, the University of International Business and Economics established the China International Carbon Neutrality Economic Research Institute based on the original International Low Carbon Economy Research Institute. To better serve the high-quality and high-level development of the petroleum industry and further support China's "dual carbon" goals, the research institute applied to the China Petroleum Enterprise Association to establish the "Carbon Neutrality Professional Committee." In July 2023, the China Petroleum Enterprise Association approved the request, and the secretariat of the Carbon Neutrality Professional Committee was established at the China International Carbon Neutrality Economic Research Institute of the University of International Business and Economics. The formation of the Carbon Neutrality Professional Committee aims to promote collaborative research among institutions, optimize resource integration, and harness synergies to provide an open platform for various related entities. This platform will facilitate strategic research, capacity building, technology exchange, standard development, industry-academia-research cooperation, and international collaboration, all geared towards helping the petroleum and petrochemical industries achieve their "dual carbon" goals.


Dr. Zhou Jinfeng expressed his thanks to the appointment. He believes the establishment of the new institution is a significant development in the field of carbon neutrality research and demonstrates the commitment of key organizations to address carbon emissions and promote sustainable development in China's energy sector. He's looking forward to contribute to the research in this area to support China's green transition.
