Introduction of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF)

The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), established in 1985, is a prominent environmental organization in China. It holds the status of a national scientific society and has a rich history rooted in the gift of endangered Père David's deer from the Duke of Bedford in the United Kingdom. Over the course of nearly four decades, CBCGDF has evolved into a leading force in natural conservation within China, boasting a dedicated team of over 100 employees and a network of more than 60 branch offices.

The organization's primary mission revolves around three key pillars: biodiversity conservation, the promotion of sustainable green development, and the establishment of a new civilization. CBCGDF has undertaken a wide range of projects that reflect these objectives, such as the Community Conservation Areas (CCAfa), Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON), Clean Internet for Conophytum (CIC), Environmental Public Interest Litigation (EPIL), "People vs. Plastics", as well as policy advisory and consultation, and the South-South Big Science Program for Biodiversity (SSBSP).

Through its steadfast commitment to these causes, CBCGDF plays an active role in safeguarding China's bio-diverse ecosystems and driving sustainable development. The organization's efforts have positioned it as a formidable advocate for environmental preservation and green growth, and its enduring work stands as a testament to its dedication to these critical issues.

【On Global Biodiversity Governance】

The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) holds an active position on the global stage, addressing critical global environmental and biodiversity challenges while actively participating in the broader international conservation community. It serves as an observer to several key international conventions, including the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar), the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA), and the BRS Conventions (namely the Stockholm Convention, the Basel Convention, and the Rotterdam Convention).

Moreover, CBCGDF has received special accreditation from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and serves as an observer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), and the International Seabed Authority (ISA). The organization is also a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Earth BioGenome Project (EBP), the Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN), the United Nations Global Compact, and the Elephant Protection Initiative (EPI). Furthermore, CBCGDF collaborates as a partner with the United Nations Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS).
