CCAfa Volunteers of CBCGDF Discovered Black Bear Cave

On October 25, 2023, volunteers from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) Wuchang Phoenix Mountain Black Bear Reserve organized a patrol operation. This patrol made important discoveries. Not only were the black bears’ tree barns and aerial dens found, but also the wire covers of illegal hunting tools and other related traces.

During this patrol, CBCGDF CCAfa volunteers discovered two black bear tree barns and one aerial den. Volunteers also found many scratches and tracks on trees by black bears, signs that this is an important habitat for black bears. However, what is worrying is that the volunteers also discovered illegal hunting tools. They found 5 suitable locations for installing infrared cameras, paving the way for the subsequent work of monitoring and recording the survival activities of black bears and other wild animals.

Although CBCGDF's black bear protection work has achieved a series of results, it also sees that there is still a long way to go in biodiversity protection. CBCGDF protected area volunteers will continue to organize patrol operations, strengthen cooperation with relevant departments, and work together to protect black bears and their habitats.
