CBCGDF Submitted Suggestions on Delivering on Sustainable Ocean Principles in Offshore Renewable Energy

On October 23th, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has proposed suggestions to the United Nations Global Compact Ocean Stewardship Coalition on Delivering on Sustainable Ocean Principles in Offshore Renewable Energy.

This document offers a set of principles and recommendations that will guide a standard approach for ORE action on net positive biodiversity goals.

Suggestions Delivering on Sustainable Ocean Principles in Offshore Renewable Energy are as follows:

Suggestion 1: Add “Principle 3: Promote synergies between biodiversity conservation goals and climate change goals at the level of the SDGs.” in the part of “HALTING BIODIVERSITY LOSS” of Principles for biodiversity net-positive offshore renewable energy.

Suggestion 2: Add “Principle 11: Ensure public participation and adequate publicity.” in the part of “COLLECTIVE APPROACH TO COMMON GOALS”of Principles for biodiversity net-positive offshore renewable energy.

Suggestion 3: Add “the civil society representing the public interest” as one of the multiple actors.

The ORE industry has a unique opportunity to integrate action on climate and biodiversity and advance goals on both. But achieving a timely energy transition that deliver positive biodiversity impact will require multiple actors work together to achieve these vital common goals.  In addition to ORE, this includes other ocean industries (OI), policymakers (P), the finance community (F), and experts in marine conservation (MC),as well as the civil society representing the public interest.
