CBCGDF Advisied Draft Regulations for the Prevention and Comprehensive Utilization of Waste Mushroom Bags in Mudanjiang City: 4 Suggestions Submitted

On October 18, 2023, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation's Committee on Ethics in Biology and Science (CBCGDF-BASE), in conjunction with the BeatPlasticPollution Working Group, held a discussion meeting. During the meeting, they discussed the draft of the "Regulations on the Prevention and Comprehensive Utilization of Waste Mushroom Bags in Mudanjiang City" and responded to the call from relevant departments by submitting four recommendations.

The mushroom industry is a distinctive agricultural sector in Mudanjiang City of Heilongjiang Province, which has made significant contributions to increasing farmers' income and agricultural development in recent years. However, as the mushroom industry in Mudanjiang City continues to grow, the quantity of discarded mushroom bags has increased annually. Improper disposal of these waste mushroom bags has led to severe environmental pollution, resulting in the issue being listed for rectification during the 2021 Central Environmental Inspection. The release of this local draft regulation is aimed at providing a legal basis to regulate and manage relevant production, disposal, and comprehensive utilization activities.

The CBCGDF, as a national-level academic society, is committed to providing decision-making consultation to help local governments in green planning and law legislation. Leveraging its role as a national-level professional society's flexible think tank, the CBCGDF actively serves government scientific decision-making and contributes to the construction of a greener future. The contributions of the CBCGDF to these endeavors reflect its dedication and responsibility as a national-level professional society.

During this working discussion, members of the CBCGDF-BASE and the BeatPlasticPollution Working Group provided valuable recommendations regarding guiding ideology, plastic pollution control, the principle of "full disclosure," the People's War on Plastics, and more. These suggestions were ultimately summarized into four recommendations to support the scientific decision-making of local governments.
