Great news! ALL the 7 recommendations submitted by CBCGDF OceanWetlands Working Group accepted!

On October 27, 2023, the CBCGDF OceanWetlands Working Group received a call from the Jiangsu Provincial authorities expressing their appreciation for the active inputs to the CBCGDF OceanWetlands Working Group on the "Jiangsu Coastal Zone and Marine Spatial Plan (2021-2035)" (Draft for Comments), and analyzed in detail each of the recommendations in comparison with the current version of the Plan and its possible future improvements, and indicated that ALL the 7 recommendations submitted by the CBCGDF OceanWetlands Working Group would be incorporated into the text of the Plan.

CBCGDF OceanWetlands Working Group responded positively to the announcement of "Jiangsu Coastal Zone and Marine Spatial Plan (2021-2035)" (Draft for Comments), recently released by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Natural Resources for public consultation, and carefully studied it to help the local scientific decision-making, and submitted 7 recommendations by email on October 19, 2023: 1) Take "Ecological Civilization" as the basis for the planning of the coastal zone and marine spatial planning; 2) It is suggested that "biodiversity conservation" and "promoting green development through biodiversity conservation" should be explicitly included in the text of "1.1 Guiding Principles"; 3) It is suggested that conservation should be prioritized when developing the economy. It is suggested that "2.1 Planning Objectives" should focus more on ecological protection and biodiversity conservation; 4) adopting nature-based solutions: ecological restoration; 5) It is suggested that "except for major national projects, a total ban on reclamation" be written into the document; 6) It is suggested that offshore wind power projects should be properly assessed for biodiversity, so as to ensure synergies between the conservation of biodiversity and clean energy initiatives; 7) To conduct biodiversity surveys on uninhabited islands, establish background data and ensure that the background data are fully publicized.

The CBCGDF OceanWetlands Working Group will continue to pay close attention to this issue.

In the future, CBCGDF will continue to actively contribute to scientific decision-making and the construction of ecological civilization across the country.
