A letter from a Conophytum Plants Enthusiast: Some merchants still selling these Wild Plants online| “Clean Internet for Conophytum” (CIC-113)
Since the Botanical and Horticultural Working Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF)launched the “Clean Internet for Conophytum” Initiative on March 9, 2023, we have received strong support and active participation from the public, nature conservationists, horticultural practitioners and related enterprises. With all the joint efforts, this action has achieved significant results, and a large number of wild Conophytum Plants have been removed from online sale platforms.
Recently, the Botanical and Horticultural Working Committee of CBCGDF received a letter from a Conophytum Plants enthusiast, providing the information of some merchants who are still selling wild Conophytum Plants on online platforms. We would like to remind these merchants that selling wild Conophytum Plants not only violates South Africa's domestic laws, but also violates international law and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). We will retain this evidence and take the next legal action.
“Clean Internet for Conophytum” initiative aims to combat illegal wildlife trade activities, especially cross-border poaching and illegal wildlife trade, by purifying illegal wildlife trade on online trading platforms, and to protect biodiversity and jointly build a community of life on Earth.
