CBCGDF-BCON Co-hosts The First Forum on Ancient and Famous Trees and Promoting Harmony Development of Rural Area

 On October 26, “The First Forum on Ancient and Famous Trees and Promoting Harmony Development of Rural Area” was held in Nanjing. China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON) working group co-hosted the Forum with the Arboriculture Branch of the Chinese Forestry Society and College of Life Sciences of Nanjing Forestry University. Nearly 60 people including experts, scholars and ecological protection enthusiasts across different area participated in this forum.

At the beginning of the forum, Professor WANG Xianrong, president of the Arboriculture Branch of the Chinese Forestry Society, and Associate Professors JU Yunwei, deputy director of the Forestry Department of Nanjing Forestry University, XU Xiaogang, secretary-general of the Arboriculture Branch of the Chinese Forestry Society, delivered the opening speech.  Mr. ZHANG Xin of Northwest A&F University served as the host.

In the morning session, HU Xianliang, the president of the Ancient Tree Hospital (Beijing) Co., Ltd. gave a speech of “Protection of Ancient Trees, Promoting Harmony Development of Rural Area”, followed by Secretary-General of the Arboriculture Branch of the Chinese Forestry Society, Xu Xiaogang Associate Professor gave a report on “Implementation of Ancient Tree Protection and Cultural Inheritance”.

In the afternoon session, Dr. XIONG Deping form National Botanical Garden Management Office,gave the speech of “Prevention and Diagnosis of Ancient Tree Diseases and Pests”. And DENG Lihui, from Guangxi Jinhe Famous Ancient Tree Protection Co., Ltd., talk about “Implementation of Related Industry of Ancient Tree Protection”. Last but not least, Liu Yunpeng, from Jiangsu Academy of Forestry Sciences discussed “Protection, Rescue, and Recovery Techniques of Ancient Trees”.

On October, 27, the meeting was held in the field. The one-day field investigation was held in Nanjing Qixia Mountain Scenic Area. Through field investigation, participants can deeply understand the imperative of ancient tree protection, and the difficulties may encounter in the process of ancient tree protection. Besides, the different measures should be taken according to different growing environment of ancient trees.


Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON) is a global biodiversity solution aimed at mitigating the rapid loss of biodiversity through people-centric solutions. As an innovative approach to biodiversity conservation in the era of ecological civilization, BCON involves active participation of people in biodiversity preservation in their daily lives, reducing their ecological footprint and contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As of September 2023, over 200 Community Conservation Areas have been established to promote neighborhood biodiversity conservation. BCON has also been selected as one of the biodiversity projects by the Paris Peace Forum 2023.
