Ma Yong: The Realization of the Value of Ecological Products Should Form a Synergistic Effect with the Implementation of the “Dual Carbon” Strategy

The first International Seminar on Realizing the Value of Ecological Products jointly organized by the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau, Yanqing District People's Government of Beijing Municipality and Chinese Society of Ecology was held in Yanqing, Beijing on Oct.23-24.

China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) is the sponsor of the conference.

On the afternoon of October 23, Ma Yong, Deputy Secretary-General of CBCGDF, delivered a keynote speech entitled “The realization of the value of ecological products should form synergistic effect with the implementation of the ‘dual carbon’ strategy” .

His report is divided into three main areas:

• The inevitable requirements of national strategy and international situation

• Current basic work

• Future collaborative work

Mr. Ma said, that only through the realization of the value of ecological products and the implementation of the “double carbon” strategy can China's development be sustainable. In order to advance this work, CBCGDF, in cooperation with the relevant local governments, has carried out Gross Ecosystem Product (GEP) accounting and "dual carbon" work plan preparation. For example, we have carried out GEP accounting in Pu’er City of Yunnan Province and Xingan League City of Inner Mongolia respectively. Through GEP accounting, local governments can be well encouraged to realize that the value of ecological products in their jurisdiction is high, and the value realization of ecological products and the two-carbon strategy can be more effectively combined.

In order to realize the synergistic effect of the two strategic works, the following basic work should be carried out at present: Strengthening the legal system is the first basic work; Solving the problem of standard system construction; Clarifying the ownership attributes and grasping the relevant situation.

In general, the realization of the value of ecological products and the formation of a synergistic effect of the dual carbon strategy will provide a strong driving force for China's sustainable development in the future and make new and important contributions to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
