CBCGDF International Department Recommends That Colleges and Universities Establish Campus Protected Areas

The 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) adopted the United Nations Biodiversity Plan for 2021-2030, also known as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). It clarifies the 30*30 goal of global biodiversity protection - that is, protecting 30% of the ocean and land area by 2030. However, the existing nature protection mechanism and protected area system are far from achieving this goal; active participation from all sectors of society is urgently needed.

And university campuses, regardless of their natural conditions and biodiversity richness, can try to serve as "campus protection sites." At the end of 2018, CBCGDF International Department made recommendations to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to promote the construction of campus protected areas in the education system globally. For example, campus protected areas such as Peking University Campus Protected Community are used as a new type of protected area model. Its benefits are many-sided: it not only allows students to pay attention to the biodiversity around them and carry out Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood; it will also be integrated into their hearts and lay the foundation for them to enter society in the future and become the backbone of ecological civilization construction.
