CBCGDF Successfully Held the Symposium on the Implementation Effectiveness of “Standards for Indoor Air Quality” and Its Impact on Tobacco Control

On October 19, 2023, the Tobacco Control Working Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) successfully held a symposium on the implementation effectiveness of “Standards for Indoor Air Quality”and its impact on tobacco control in Beijing. The meeting invited researchers from the Institute of Environment and Health Related Product Safety of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, experts from the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine Sciences, experts from the Department of Smoking Control and Respiratory Disease Control of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, professors from the School of Environment of Tsinghua University, experts from the Beijing Association for Tobacco Control, and industry insiders who have long been engaged in the promotion of tobacco control.

The application scenarios of the “Standards for Indoor Air Quality” (GB/T18883-2022) are more focused on monitoring and preventing indoor decoration pollution, and are less applied to the air pollution caused by toxic and harmful smoke emitted by smoking in hotels and other indoor public places.

Starting from the field of ecological and environmental protection, and combining with environmental public interest litigation cases that affect the environmental health and personnel health of indoor public places such as the setting up of smoking areas in shopping malls, the Tobacco Control Working Group of CBCGDF invited experts to discuss and jointly make suggestions, hoping that through the improvement of standards, China will soon introduce nationwide smoking control regulations, and implement a complete ban on smoking in indoor public places, workplaces, and public transportation.
