Beijing Ancient Tree Hospital: Increasing Biodiversity Through the Protection of Ancient Trees

Ancient trees are precious resources in the ecosystem, they can increase biodiversity and improve ecological functions. Ancient trees often have a long history of growth, and they provide habitat and food supplies that not only support a variety of wildlife but also support the balance of the ecosystem. In addition, ancient trees also have the ability of soil conservation, and carbon sequestration, and play a vital role in environmental protection and climate regulation. The protection of ancient trees and the culture they inherit is also an important topic of the Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON) Working Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF).

Recently, Hu Xianliang, president of Beijing Baichuan Research Institute, Wang Shengnan, president of Beijing Ancient Tree Hospital Beijing Main Branch, and Chao Ge, executive president of Beijing Ancient Tree Culture Digital Media, visited BCON Working Group of CBCGDF to discuss the protection techniques and cultural communication of ancient tree.

During the meeting, Mr. Hu Xianliang and his fellow discussed the cultural meaning behind the ancient tree, ancient tree protection measures, and related industry, etc.; at the same time, communicated the idea of the relationship between biodiversity protection and agricultural development.

The Ancient Tree Hospital follows the rules of the natural process, tree aging process, and pathological process of ancient trees to carry out comprehensive and professional technical protection. At present, there are more than 1,500 successful cases in more than 5 provinces and cities across the country. Ancient trees are the only "living cultural relics". The future work is not only about treating and rescuing but also the inheritance and popularization of ancient tree culture. Through the all-round protection of ancient trees, the development of industries related to ancient trees can be achieved, thereby stimulating the local economy and assisting rural revitalization.
