CBCGDF Global Environmental Governance Team Holds 2024 Work Planning Meeting, Outlining Important International Conferences and Activities

On the morning of October 19, 2023, the Global Environmental Governance Team of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) held an end-of-year working meeting. The main purpose of this meeting was to review and formulate the 2024 international work plan for CBCGDF, as well as to provide initial insights and discussions on international activities and participation schemes scheduled for 2024.

The CBCGDF has long been committed to biodiversity conservation and green development, leveraging its International Division to establish the Global Environmental Governance Team and the Global Environmental Governance Decision-Making Advisory Team.

The convening of this working meeting aimed to outline the important events and essential international activities for 2024. These events serve as crucial platforms for global environmental governance, including but not limited to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the three international chemical conventions (the Stockholm Convention, the Basel Convention, and the Rotterdam Convention), the 6th United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6), the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the Earth BioGenome Project (EBP), the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4), a series of meetings by the International Seabed Authority (ISA), the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the International Organization for Standardization Biodiversity Technical Committee (ISO TC331), and others involving international agreements and organizations. It also encompasses discussions on the "Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee meetings to develop a legally binding international instrument on plastic pollution, including marine litter."

The working meeting further delved into how to prepare for participation and how to better involve Chinese scientists, providing a platform for conservationists, scholars and researchers to engage in global environmental governance and global ocean governance to contribute their expertise and knowledge to serve the global cause of SDGs. Plus, as highlighted by the Deputy Secretary-General Ms Linda, it's important to provide platforms for youth, woman and local communities to voice at global stage.
