The Interpretation of the Theme of ICCOP 2023 (9)
2023 International Climate Conference of People Forum (ICCOP 2023) is going to be held by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) on September 3rd, 2023, during 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS). This conference aims to empower individuals and communities to actively participate in mitigating climate change and creating a sustainable future for all. The theme of this forum is “Dual Carbon Goals and Environmental Services”. In order to contribute to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, the meeting will implement the Standard for Green Meeting (T/CGDF 00027-2021) to effectively reduce biodiversity and carbon footprints, by promoting recycling of conference materials, prohibiting paper prints, enhancing reduction of energy consumption, food waste and disposable bottled water, as well as encouraging carbon offsets, etc.
In the face of climate change, it is crucial to improve the quality of environmental services to effectively mitigate its impacts. By raising standards and fostering sustainable practices, people can enhance our ability to tackle climate change effectively.
Improving environmental service quality starts with establishing and enforcing robust standards that prioritize climate change mitigation. Governments should develop stringent regulations that focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting renewable energy sources, and enhancing energy efficiency in industries and households. By setting high standards, we can pave the way for a more sustainable and low-carbon future.
Investing in research and encouraging innovation plays a pivotal role in enhancing environmental service quality and addressing climate change challenges. Governments should allocate resources to support research initiatives that focus on developing clean technologies, sustainable agriculture practices, and climate-resistant infrastructure. Promoting partnerships between academia, industry, and government can accelerate the development and adoption of innovative solutions.
Alongside mitigation efforts, it is crucial to support adaptation measures that help communities and ecosystems cope with the impacts of climate change. Governments should invest in infrastructure improvements with high standards, such as flood management systems and coastal protection measures. Then vulnerable communities can enhance their resilience and help themselves address climate-related risks effectively.
