Never overlook the impact of industrial pollution by pharmaceutical companies! | CBCGDF-BCON proposes Beijing local standards for soil pollution prevention and control in industrial parks

In late July 2023, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment issued a letter on public solicitation of opinions on the Beijing local standard "Guidelines for the Preparation of Soil Pollution Prevention and Control Plans in Industrial Parks" (Draft for Comments), soliciting opinions from all walks of life. The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation "Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood" working group (CBCGDF-BCON working group) actively responded to the call, and after serious research and discussion, put forward 5 suggestions for reference. The following is [Suggestion 2].

[Suggestion]: Include "pharmaceutical enterprises" in relevant parts

[Reason] A large amount of waste gas, waste water, and waste residue discharged by pharmaceutical companies in the process of drug production, if not handled properly, can lead to serious environmental pollution, which is difficult to treat; and the recycling rate is low. In addition, some pharmaceutical companies involved in antibiotics may cause antibiotic pollution if the drug residues are not properly handled. These pollutions may endanger the ecological environment of the industrial park and its surroundings, including air, water, soil, and biodiversity, endanger the health of humans, animals and plants, and affect the sustainable development of the park.
