Corn "Dancing with the Grass": Innovative Ecological Agriculture Model to Cope with Extreme Weather, such as Drought and Flood | Recorded By BCON Working Group in Late August 2023

Compared with last year's severe drought, Shandong has been experiencing frequent wind and rain this year. At the Siyuan Eco-site in Shandong, this scene is being staged in the corn field in late August 2023: the corn dancing with the grass is swaying in the sun. According to reports, this planting method of dancing with grass not only performed well in this year's harvest, but also can effectively cope with extreme weather such as high temperature and drought. At the same time, it avoids the use of pesticides and herbicides and saves labor, which has become a new trend of ecological agriculture.

The "dancing with the grass" planting method is an innovative agricultural production mode. Mr.Wang Yanjing of Shandong Siyuan Eco-site said that this method is actually a manifestation of ecological balance. It uses the principles of ecological niche, food chain, food web, and nutrient cycle to allow corn and weeds to co-exist. At the same time, this model can also attract natural enemy insects and achieve the purpose of controlling insects with insects, thereby reducing the use of pesticides.

This type of cultivation excels at fighting extreme weather. Wang Yanjing pointed out that corn dancing with grass can better cope with severe weather such as high temperature and drought. This is due to the symbiotic relationship between corn and weeds, which makes the ecosystem more stable and reduces the impact of extreme weather on crops.
